For over 30 years Mrs. Rosethorn worked in the Higher Education Faculty of New College Durham reaching the position of senior lecturer in Education and Teacher Training.
She was a tutor on a number of different courses accredited by the Higher Education Training Awards Council (HETAC) namely the Further Education Teachers Certificate, Certificate in Education, Post Graduate Certificate in Education and BA (Hons) Education and Training. In addition to this she worked as an external examiner for these courses requiring her to visit other colleges throughout the North of England to moderate the final assessments of student assignments and dissertations.
The subjects she taught were Curriculum Development, Learning Aims and Objectives, Teaching and Learning Strategies, Management of Learning, Classroom Communication and Management, Learning Resources, Assessment of Student Learning, Evaluation of Teaching and Continuous Professional Development.
In 1991 she was appointed by The Training and Development Lead Body (TDLB) as the Regional Verifier for the North of England and Scotland. In the late 1980's a British government initiative required all teachers, irrespective of the qualifications they held, to gain TDLB Assessor Awards. Her role as Regional Verifier was to approve centers wishing to deliver the awards and lead a team of people who made regular visits to verify that the approved centers were meeting the standards of the Assessor Awards.
Mrs. Rosethorn came from England to live in Tangier in 2002 to be with her family and take a career break. For a few years she dedicated her time to her grandchildren before accepting a part time position as Assistant Librarian at AST.
When she was asked to consider the post of Lower School Head she accepted without hesitation. Mrs.Rosethorn's knowledge and experience in Education and Teacher Training will be of benefit to the whole school.
