Assistant Head of School; Head of Upper School B.A. (Literature & Philosophy) University of Pittsburgh; M.S.Ed. (Intercultural Communication in Education; International Education) University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Fillman began teaching ESL in Seoul, Korea in 1995. He then completed his CELTA degree, Cambridge/Oxford English Language Teacher Training Program, in London. In 1997, he developed ESL/EFL curricula and taught Middle School English on the Island of Rota, for CNMI Public School district. In 1998, Mr. Fillman became the Director of English as a Foreign Language Curriculum and Instruction at Konkuk University and later received a Distinguished Service before beginning his graduate training at the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. Some of his post-graduate employment includes adjunct instructor positions at the University of Pennsylvania’s EFL Program, the School for International Training, Vermont, and US State Department and USAID funded programs. He began directing EFL programs for the International Language Institute of Massachusetts in 2005. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Fillman taught High School English and IB English Courses at The American School of Switzerland and directed the USAID funded Summer Intensive English and Math Program at the American Academy, Tbilisi, Georgia during his summer vacations. It was during his tenure as the summer program director at the American Academy in Tbilisi that he first began working with AST’s current Head of School, Mr. Richard Lussen.
Mr. Fillman joined AST in June 2011.
